Unlike Old Masters & paintings, the prices for antique Asian works of art are hard to be monitored or put into a standardized format. Most of the time the art work is unique and special, though it belongs to a clearly identified “field of collecting”. Even within a specified field or a group of comparable objects, the implementation of a true art price monitoring in Asian Art is highly complex and sometimes not even possible at all.
Popular groups of collectable objects in Chinese antique art may include blue & white porcelain, Hetian Yu, Jades from Qianlong period, fire gilt bronze Buddhist figures, brush rests, all kinds of porcelain like Minguo Porcelain or for example doucai porcelain from Qing-Dynastie, Guangxu-marked porcelain and so forth.
Each of these fields of collecting consist of a huge amount of objects, which might be quite different in size, quality, condition, provenance etc. This means, that you cannot get any standardized lists of art prices for Chinese art or antique Asian arts. The price monitoring depends on a high degree on comparison of related objects. To compare objects with each other, a big data base is needed respectively access to publications or relevant auction catalogues.
Asiatika-Ankauf is executing an art price monitoring in Asian Art and especially in Chinese Art & Works of Art not only relying on our own data base, but in collaboration with our partner galleries and related research institutes.
